Biography

Ian Nicholson was born in the UK in 1963 and came to Australia in 1997 to work as a software development manager. An avid photographer in his teens, and an amateur videographer making home videos and short docos (he attended a Documentary Video Making class at the University of Sydney), his real interest in film-making was piqued when he joined the Screen Actors Workshop in Brookvale in 2004. Feeling inspired enough to buy his own Sony HDV professional camera and Avid Liquid editing suite, he set about making numerous short films with friends from the Screen Actors Workshop. In 2007 he formed the Sydney Film Industry Meetup Group which to date has over 550 members - all keen Sydney-based film-makers, and has helped a number of them get their short films produced. Over the last couple of years, he has worked on over 20 short films. In 2007, he shot Jayce White's 'Between the Flags' which won Best Comedy and Best Male Actor at Tropfest 2007. Continuing with his own acting, he has appeared in 'X-Men Origins:Wolverine' (dir. Gavin Hood) and 'False Witness' (dir. Peter Andrikidis) as well as a number of TV commercials and other shorts, and in Roz Riley's production of Agatha Christie's 'The Patient' which enjoyed a run at the Star of the Sea Theatre, Manly - Ian's theatrical debut. He is a 'regularly outspoken' contributor to the Actors Australia website and forum. By day, Ian works in IT Sales, has recently launched a new lifestyle magazine video website, MyCityLifestyle.TV. He is currently producing a new 'Twilight Zone inspired' series called 'Strange Fiction' (www.strangefiction.tv) and is writing his blockbuster sci-fi adventure feature that is going to be the 'best sci-fi since Blade Runner'...!
